Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
I firmly believe God gives us exactly what we need when we need it. And every once in a while that comes in the form of a person entering or exiting our lives.
Throughout our lives we meet people, and every so often someone comes along and instantly you know that this person is just right. They mold so perfectly into your life that it's as if they have always been there. They understand you better than anyone, they share your same values and sense of humor, and being around them is so easy and fun. Enter John-Warren.
Recently our family has had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know John-Warren. Instantly he became a part of us. We knew from the second we met him that this was someone we wanted in our lives, forever! He and Mike have forged a friendship that is almost like no other I've seen in my almost 34 years. They share the same intelligence, wit, charm, love of music, and sense of humor. One can start to say something yet doesn't need to finish because the other already knows. They laugh and joke and life is fun and easy in their friendship. But they are not afraid to hold each other accountable.
For me, the most important thing as I watch their friendship grow is the love the two men share for their God, families, and friends. They know where they stand with God and He with them. They are not afraid to take on the role and responsibility of "head of household" and plant the seed of God in the hearts and minds of the people they are responsible for. They take the role of Spiritual Leader seriously. They are not judgmental and don't laugh when someone asks questions or is lost. They simply help you find your way.
In my journey to find my faith I am constantly being tested. Everyday is a struggle between believing and questioning everything. And everyday Mike and John-Warren are here to set me strait. They are pillars in the foundation of a Godly home. Standing strong, sturdy, and unshakable against evil. The word of God shielding them.
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 NIV
So what does God tell us about men like Mike and John-Warren?
Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. Titus 2:2 ESV
Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Titus2:6 ESV
Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in his commandments! Psalm 112:1 ESV
But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. 1 Corinthians 11:3 ESV
That all being said, I'm so honored to have two such men as role models to my two sons. If Mike and I raise our boys to be even an ounce of the men they have to look up to, I think God will be proud. Courageous, gentle, loving, self-controlled, steadfast, and strong in faith. Men of God.
Many Blessings,
Lacey
